Betsey Johnson brings adorable granddaughter with her to Macy's for the launch of her new cut-price dress collection

Betsey Johnson brought her adorable granddaughter Layla to Macy's yesterday to help her celebrate the launch of her new dress collection.
The five-year-old drew on the floors with lipstick and tucked into a bowl of jellybeans while her designer grandmother painted the walls and dressed the mannequins inside a window of the store.
And the finished product was a groovy display of Ms Johnson's spring line featuring bold colors, flouncy textures and ultra-feminine silhouettes.

'This is special, isn't it?' Ms Johnson said to MailOnline of the family affair in New York's Herald Square. 'I mean, I couldn't have planned it better. I wish every appearance could be like this.'
The energetic 70-year-old, who is famous for ending her runway shows with a cartwheel, sipped on champagne as she painted red lips onto mannequins, threw sparkles into the air, and played up to an audience that watched her from outside the window.

She even strummed on a guitar, beaming beneath her signature platinum locks.
From all the fun she was having, you would never guess that Ms Johnson's namesake fashion label filed for bankruptcy last year, forcing her to shut down 63 of her stores.
But the ever-optimistic designer, who has since been busy working on a sportswear collection and a reality series, clearly hasn't let the setback slow her down.

She said in a press release: 'I'm back!!! Doing my dress thing. Pretty and punk, sweet and sexy, always rock n' roll.'
While looks from her newest line include Betsey touches like peplum, animal prints and fun pops of bright color, they are significantly more affordable, with prices ranging from $99 to $249 a dress.
The designs are also more understated than her usual garb, making them more wearable to a larger variety of women.

And the fashion guru couldn't be more thrilled to bring her carefree style to the masses.
'It's exciting,' she told MailOnline. 'It's a commercial interpretation of what I do, but I could never be that commercial.'
One dress from the line comes in navy blue with white polka dots, featuring a flattering halter neck and a hint of red tulle peaking out from beneath a flouncy skirt.
Another frock is adorned in rainbow animal print, cap sleeves and a peplum waist.
And cute details like beaded necklines, heart-shaped busts and Peter Pan collars keep the looks fresh and on-trend.

'It's miraculous,' the designer said of her diffusion line, 'because all the years that I made dresses and everything else, somehow we couldn't crack - well we didn't want to crack - volume.'
But now, she says, her fashion can be enjoyed all around the world.
In the ad campaign for her new line, models sport the dresses while holding on to poodles in pink, purple and white.
'It's just Photoshop, dolls!' the ebullient designer assured her fans on her Facebook page.
The designer also told us that she is working on bringing exclusive items to her website - including T-shirts and other casual wear.
Ms Johnson, who frequently brings her family members onto the runway after her shows, said she's confident of her new line because her daughter Lulu - the mother of Layla and an aspiring fashion designer herself - is also a fan of the looks.

No plans to slow down: Ms Johnson and her designer daughter Lulu are starring in a new reality series, Betsy + Lulu, on the Style Network this spring

'If she loves it and I love it, we did good,' she said.
And if creating dresses doesn't keep her busy enough, the fun-loving designer will also be starring in a reality show with her daughter this spring.
Entitled Betsey + Lulu, the Style Network series will follow the pair as they deal with the ups and downs of their close mother-daughter relationship.
